Robots Dream of New Dimensions

I’m happy to say that What Do Robots Dream Of is getting even more interesting, with the addition of Lee Bailey, author of The Enchantments of Technology, who will share the stage with Cornell Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Hod Lipson and robot music from the League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots. Lipson is known all over the world for his work on the cutting edge of robot “consciousnes”. He’s a wonderful explicator of what machines can and can’t do, and what the future may hold for their internal development.
Bailey, a professor of philosophy and religious studies who just retired from Ithaca College, devotes a long chapter in his new book to the issue of what humans expect from robots, which he sees as nothing more than preprogrammed puppets. Can we really love things we’ve created as if they were beings outside ourselves??Ǭ
