In this special Science Cabaret presentation, New York-based magician and author Alex Stone probes the limits of perception, the mysteries of consciousness, the road to mastery, and the art of deception. Preceded by a social hour featuring a musical multimedia experience by Ithaca’s own dj laika.

In this talk and demonstration, physicist and fiddler Kathy Selby reveals how the violin, one of the smallest of instruments, produces such a powerful and complex sound. Selby and her guests trace the evolution of “the devil’s box” from its meek beginnings in the 1500s through its transformation in 17th century Italy to its reimagining in the electronic age.
