Bug song to premier at LIW’s “The Birds That Roar”
December 19th, 2006 by barbara
Well, this is a first for Light in Winter: the chance to debut sounds never heard before. Ron Hoy, Cornell’s bioacoustician extraordinaire who stars in The Birds That Roar, writes: “I just got a wonderful set of materials from Rex Cocroft (whose piece on the thornbug people may have heard on NPR) who has just returned from Equador. As promised, he sought out and found a bug whose songs have never been recorded before and he assures me that the audience at LIW will hear something nobody but Rex has ever heard. He also sent along some nice pictures of the ‘beast’ itself. Vis-a-vis the title (of our finale performance), these bugs are the only ones that ‘roar’ and ‘whimper’ .” More about all this at the performance, I assume.
